Kansas residents purchasing qualifying lockable gun and ammunition storage may qualify for a state income-tax credit. The credit equals 25% of qualifying expenditures, up to $250 per taxpayer each year, for tax years 2026 through 2028. (1)
What Storage Qualifies?
The storage must be lockable and designed primarily for gun and ammunition storage. Do not assume that every general-purpose home safe qualifies simply because a firearm fits inside it. Check the product’s intended use and the current Kansas guidance before claiming the credit.
How Much Could the Credit Be?
| Qualifying expenditure | Potential credit |
|---|---|
| $400 | $100 |
| $800 | $200 |
| $1,000 | $250 |
| $1,500 | $250 |
These examples apply the statutory percentage and annual cap. The credit reduces state income-tax liability; it is not a discount deducted from your order. Unused credit may be carried forward under the state’s rules.
Choose Storage that Fits Your Needs
Start with the firearms and accessories you need to store. Compare usable interior dimensions, lock options, mounting requirements, and delivery access. If you also want fire protection or independently tested burglary resistance, check those specifications separately.

Keep Your Purchase Records
Retain your itemized receipt and a copy of the product description. Before filing, consult the current Kansas Department of Revenue instructions or your tax adviser about eligibility and how to claim the credit.
